The incident happened at about 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3 in Dutchess County at the Mount Beacon Trail head.

Initial updates from the Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response 911 Center (DCDER) indicated that the school personnel had administered first aid and were attempting to assist the patient down the mountain, according to information provided by the Beacon Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

Subsequent updates from DCDER noted that the patient was no longer able to walk due to the severity of the leg injury, prompting an urgent response from emergency services.

Due to the location of the patient and the difficult mountain terrain, acBeacon Volunteer Ambulance Corps specialized Utility Terrain Vehicle (UTV) was deployed to the mountain head.

BVAC personnel successfully navigated the mountain terrain to reach the patient, reaching within 100 yards of the location.

Upon assessment, the decision was made by crews on the mountain to request an air medical helicopter.

Crews on the mountain stabilized and packaged the patient, receiving assistance from school staff as well as New York State Park Police Public Safety Rangers who were on scene with the patient.

The patient was then transported at about 3 p.m. to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla for further treatment.
